Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Rebuilding Together * Metro Chicago!

If you are new to Rebuilding Together * Metro Chicago, please allow us to introduce you to our yearly cycle. Each year, we work towards National Rebuilding Day, a one-day volunteer event on the last Saturday in April. Through corporate and community partnership, repairs are made to over 70 homes in Chicago and south suburban Cook County. Volunteers paint, clean, garden, organize clutter and make additional repairs as their experience allows. Skilled trades union members donate their labor to make necessary electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painter/taper repairs in each home.

Beginning in July, volunteers help to interview homeowner applicants on Saturday mornings. Sponsor teams form in the fall and choose a home to repair at our annual Housewarming Party in December. Each team is organized by a lead volunteer — the House Captain! Beginning in January, House Captains attend training sessions, which guide them through the process of preparing materials and a workscope for National Rebuilding Day.

In addition to our home repair projects, our community revitalization efforts continue year-round with our Give Back Day program. Large groups of volunteers participate in specific community improvement projects at schools, community centers, shelters and other non-profit facilities. Such projects are aimed at making needed improvements to facilities in need, but also help to strengthen and build the community for the residents that they serve.

Each year the Logistics Committee members organize the behind the scenes coordination & transportation of over 4000 volunteers on National Rebuilding Day! If you are interested in event coordination or want to pitch in with planning as an independent volunteer, this committee is for you!
